4-Year-Old Shoots Himself With Gun Found Under His Mom’s Pillow

A tragic case of a mother protecting herself and putting her child in harm’s way in the process.

A 4-year old boy shot himself in the chest with a .38 caliber handgun he found under his mother’s pillow Saturday night in the northeast section of Philadelphia.

Authorities are unclear if there was anyone else in the house at the time of the shooting and believe the shooting was accidental. Police will interview the mother, as reported by Philly.com.

According to a neighbor, the neighborhood is not a target for criminals and therefore is not a place where firearms need to be kept by bedsides.

The tot is in critical condition and is undergoing surgery at St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children in Philadelphia.
