Good Samaritan Kristyn Dominy put the road rage incident to the back of her mind when she saw the faces of the woman and child inside the inferno.
She leapt into action, as flames licked at the baby who was tangled in the seat belt.
As she rescued the child she ordered the woman to roll on the ground to extinguish her burning clothes.
Only seconds before, she had been shown the middle finger by the driver who was driving erratically as she sped along the country lane in Crystal River, Florida.
She said: ‘She did flick me off when she passed me.
‘My first thought when I came around the corner and saw that her vehicle was on fire was, I was thinking karma, but the same time, I could never… just sit there and watch that happen.
‘I don’t even know how I didn’t get burned. I took the seat belt of her and told her get on the ground and roll because her clothes were on fire.
‘The vehicle was up in flames, and just the look on the mum and daughter’s face, I could never just drive by and not think about that.’
The 22-year-old was heading home with her own toddler when the incident happened
Ms Dominy said she noticed black smoke coming from the Jeep, and when she turned another corner, she saw the woman’s car and some trees in flames.
She said the woman was on fire and struggling to get her daughter out of the burning car, so she pulled over to help.
After the rescue, she put the pair in her car and called the emergency services.
The mother and child, who have not been identified, were taken to Tampa General Hospital.
The mother has been released, but the child is said to be in a serious condition.
The State Fire Marshal’s Office has yet to say what started that fire, but friends of the woman describe the car that burned as ‘faulty’.
