Mom Arrested For Letting Kids Play Outside

Tammy Cooper from La Porte, Texas was arrested and jailed, after a neighbor called the police and claimed that the mom let her kids play outside on motorized scooters.

Cooper, mom to a 6- and 9-year-old claims that she was watching her kids from a lawn chair during the incident.
Unfortunately, police came and arrested the mom for child endangerment, causing her to spend 18 hours in jail.

Cooper recalled the scene when the cops had arrived. “My daughter had him around the leg saying, “Please, please don’t take my mom to jail. Please, she didn’t do anything wrong,’” she told reporters.

Cooper’s arrest sparked a bit of outrage from mom bloggers, especially those who believe that children should be able to play on their own.

“For the last few decades, child development experts have been telling us that the crucial thing missing from kids’ lives is exactly what used to fill them: Time with friends of different ages, playing outside, on their own,” Huffington Post blogger Lenore Skenazy wrote.

“All children may not be old enough to handle such a situation, but some definitely are, and it should be a parent’s right to decide if they are,” Julie Ryan Evans added.

Charges against the mom have been dropped although he is now suing the police department and her neighbor.
